My lab is interested primarily in secretory cell homeostasis and differentiation. We primarily study the stomach with its large compliment of endocrine cells, any of them with secretion patterns that overlap pancreatic islet endocrine cells. The stomach is also a key organ in regulating sensations of satiety and hunger through mechanisms that are not well understood. Many of our projects concern regulation of mechanisms of secretion at the fundamental level, including transcription factors and their targets that are involved in secretory granulogenesis and homeostasis. Mostly, we focus on gastric zymogenic chief cells and pancreatic acinar (exocrine) cells, but we are interested in any long-lived cells with abundant stored secretory granules, including beta islet cells.
