Descriptor of Research:
I recently joined the department as Assistant Director of the Core Lab for Clinical Studies. Currently, my interests and expertise are in developing assays for clinical use. I hope to establish collaborative projects with faculty within the Endocrine, Metabolism, and Lipids Research Division. Initially I will work with Dr. Ostlund to validate an assay he has been using in his research lab for analysis of phytosterols by gas chromatography-mass spectrometry (GC-MS). I have a personal interest in developing liquid chromatography-tandem mass spectrometry (LC-MS/MS) assays for peptides in the clinic. Certain LC-MS/MS assays have proved to be very valuable within the field of endocrinology (thyroglobulin and parathyroid-related peptide), and I believe there will be others. I plan to begin working with Dr. Reid Townsend and the Mass Spectrometry Resource group on campus to explore the suitability of certain peptide biomarkers for clinical use. I am also interested in working with faculty who plan translational research projects or would like to investigate unusual laboratory results. Lastly, I have an interest in pharmacogenetics (PGx) and would be interested in establishing PGx investigations within diabetes or cardiovascular treatment areas.
