Metabolic Regulation and Obesity

My research interests include the neuroendocrine mechanisms that perpetuate obesity and identify targets to treat obesity. We have previously published translational studies investigating relationship of dopamine signaling and neuroendocrine regulators in obesity and bariatric surgery. I work with a multidisciplinary group of scientists aiming to understand the regulation of central reward signaling that drives eating behaviors and how the metabolic alterations of weight gain and diabetes affect reward signaling. Our investigations incorporate both in vivo glucose and insulin method with state of the art neuroimaging to investigate the hypothesis that these metabolic alterations impair food related reward signaling and perpetuate behaviors that limit weight loss.
