On behalf of the organizers, Luciano Adorini, MD, Philipp Scherer, PhD, and Clay Semenkovich, MD, I would like to invite you to the upcoming Kern conference entitled “Targets/Therapies for Diabetes, Atherosclerosis and NASH: A Dialogue between Academia and Industry on Innovation” to be held in Vail, Colorado, Monday August 8-Wednesday August 10, 2016.
The Kern Conference has traditionally focused on the relationships between lipid metabolism and complex cardiometabolic diseases such as dyslipidemia, atherosclerosis and diabetes. As you will see from the attached meeting agenda, this year’s conference will provide a forum for discussing our evolving understanding of Targets/Therapies for Diabetes, Atherosclerosis and NASH and will involve major interaction and discussion between leaders in academia and industry.
Apart from its rich tradition and reputation as one of the outstanding meetings in the lipid field, the Kern Lipid Conference features a unique format with equal time given to both formal presentation and discussion for each lecture. This arrangement promotes lively discussions between academic and industry scientists. Poster sessions facilitate the interaction between junior scientists and more established investigators. Important aims of the Kern Lipid Conference are to foster communication between emerging scientists from diverse backgrounds, graduate students, post-doctoral fellows, and senior investigators.
To encourage attendance by young investigators, each year the Kern Conference offers a large number of travel awards; typically more than 50% of junior investigators receive conference support. For 2016, there will be 3 named awards for junior investigators including the David L. Williams Memorial Lectureship Award for Instructors or Assistant Professors with 5 years or less of independence, the Roger Davis Investigator Award for Transitional Faculty for Instructors or Assistant Professors with 3 years or less of independence, and the Franz Simon Poster Award for graduate students or postdoctoral associates. Winners of the first 2 awards will present talks at the conference.
Please join us in beautiful Vail, Colorado, for 3 days of exciting talks, posters and informal exchange that is guaranteed to leave you with many new ideas and thoughts. Please encourage your colleagues, students and postdocs to contribute, and share the attached invitation by passing it on and by posting it on your message boards.
